in Hollywood Road where the disturbance of the previous night had taken place, and which was then in charge of two Police Constables. The house was also broken into; the Constables in charge of it were severely beaten and the house was set on fire, finally endangering the safety of the whole town. Eventually a Piquet and a strong body of Police came on the ground, and the riot was quelled; but I regret to report that while the rioters were escaping, some shots were fired which resulted in one of their number - Private Louidate, 99th Regiment - being killed, and two of the Piquet being wounded.

Every effort has been made on the part of the Civil Government to discover the persons by whom these shots were fired, and a reward has been offered for their identification, but as yet without success; and it still remains doubtful whether the shots were fired by the Police or by Civilians, and whether they were fired intentionally or by accident.
